Stefanik says Harris and Walz’s joint interview “offends all women”

House GOP Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik, RN.Y., joins a wave of critics following Vice President Kamala Harris to hold her first 2024 campaign interview with her deputy, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

“It is absolutely unacceptable that the first and ONLY interview from Kamala Harris, the anointed Democrat candidate for President of the United States, is done with Tim Walz,” Stefanik said Thursday.

“It’s upsetting to all women that Kamala refused to sit in the debate alone while running for chief executive.”

Harris and Walz sat down with CNN host Dana Bash for a pre-booked interview Thursday that will air at 9pm ET. It will be the first debate between the two of them since becoming the Democratic presidential ticket.

It will be Harris’ first official interview since replacing President Biden at the top of the ticket 39 days ago.

It comes after growing pressure on Harris to participate in an unscripted, taped event or press conference – something he hasn’t done since becoming a candidate, but for a chat with reporters earlier this month.

Republicans took issue with his decision to sit down next to Walz, saying it shows Harris can’t defend his platform on his own.

Stefanik also accused the media of complicity, continuing his statement, “Democrat stenographers in the mainstream media blindly regurgitate talking points given to them directly by the campaign of Kamala Harris.”

“Kamala Harris and her entire campaign are an affront to the American people,” he said.

Harris campaign spokeswoman Lauren Hitt responded to Stefanik’s statement, saying, “For at least 20 years, every ticket, Republican and Democrat, has sat in a joint debate. the only one was when Donald Trump walked out of his joint interviews four years ago and 60. Lesley Stahl’s minutes, because she couldn’t hold him accountable in his extreme reporting, unpopular.”

Fox News Digital reached out to the Trump campaign for a response.

Meanwhile, some journalists also have doubts about the decision of this campaign.

Former CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller wrote in X, “Should CNN have insisted on a one-on-one interview with Harris and denied a joint interview with Harris and Walz? It’s too hard to leave But the first question for Harris should be why [she] it cannot appear alone.”

It’s not unusual for presidential candidates and their allies to attend debates — a point Harris’ allies have repeatedly used to defend him.

The Politico Playbook quoted a campaign official who responded to the uproar over the list of joint interviews by the presidential ticket two decades ago, telling the outlet, “Obviously, he’s going to do interviews alone.”
